A Life Snapshot...
Born and raised in central Pennsylvania, Dr. Nissley grew up in a loving home with rural, blue collar roots. Dr. Nissley married his wife in 1999, and they have since been married and have added two children to their family. If Dr. Nissley isn't at the office, he is most likely spending time with his family or fishing from his kayak. Dr. Nissley is an ordained deacon and is active in the life of his church.
Dr. Nissley's experiences in life have helped shape who he is, and he brings these perspectives to his approach in clinical work.

My Approach to Clinical Services...
Dr. Nissley primarily utilizes a cognitive-behavioral approach to therapy. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been widely shown in research to be effective for treatment a variety of concerns efficiently for both children and adults. Dr. Nissley is competent in a wide variety of CBT approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Parent Management Training (PMT), and Problem-Solving Skills Training (PST). Dr. Nissley, who initially trained as a Freudian psychoanalyst, is also competent to integrate other approaches into treatment as appropriate.
Growth is a daily process that requires intentionality, and it requires collaboration in the treatment context. Thus, from initial session to discharge, Dr. Nissley will seek to engage clients in a journey towards change.

My Training...
Dr. Nissley received his undergraduate degree in 1999 from Messiah College, where he majored in psychology and minored in Christian Education. Two years later, he received a Masters degree in clinical psychology from Millersville University. In 2009, Dr. Nissley received a Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology from Capella University. He completed his pre-doctoral training at the Devereux Foundation (APA Accredited), and he completed his post-doctoral residency in geropsychology through Deer Oaks Behavioral Health Associates.
Since completing his doctoral training, Dr. Nissley has also sought additional training in applied behavior analysis through the University of Houston at Victoria. His training has prepared him for effective practice with diverse clients and for a variety of concerns.

My Professional Activities...
Dr. Nissley is a licensed as a clinical psychologist and has actively served and worked in direct service, supervision, consulting, teaching, and research. He joined the faculty at East Texas Baptist University in 2011, where served as founding program director of a graduate program in counseling and later served as an associate professor of psychology until returning to full-time practice in May of 2017. Dr. Nissley has over fifteen years of experience providing psychological services to adults, children, and families.
He has published research in the areas of God-concept and the connection between spirituality and resilience. He has served on a national task force within the American Psychological Association for promoting psychological literacy. He currently serves on a state commission aimed at improving healthcare as a professional expert. More recently, Dr. Nissley has been involved in research on therapist self-disclosure. He has authored over 30 presentations and publications professionally.
Dr. Nissley has specialized in consulting with and providing treatment to children diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder within specialized foster care settings. He has frequently provided invited talks related to assessment and treatment of Reactive Attachment Disorder and other trauma-focused disorders among children and adolescents.
Dr. Nissley has also previously specialized in pediatric forensic evaluation, and have become a court expert in multiple jurisdictions. He also works closely with medical professionals by providing pre-surgical and diagnostic evaluations. Dr. Nissley also serves as a consultative examiner for the states of Louisiana and Texas.
